Babies seem to laugh for the darndest reasons! It’s like they find just about everything funny, and as adults, it’s difficult to see what could possibly be making them laugh so much. Most modern studies seem to conclude that babies laugh for a huge variety of reasons, but often they laugh because their Mom or Dad is doing something to entertain them. Aww!
This Dad is trying to teach his little baby girl, Nowah, to say “mama” and “papa” while they’re out for a walk. While she has no trouble with “mama”, she has a tendency to pronounce “papa” as “baba”, which led Dad to continue repeating the word “papa” by emphasizing the “p” sound. But when he starts really getting into that word, Nowah begins to burst into tiny little giggles!
For couples about to become parents, the wait for their baby to be born is an exciting and nerve-wracking time.
Fathers want to be there for the birth of their little ones, and mothers try to relax as they await the miracle that they’re about to create.
But not all dads can be there for the births of their children, especially those working hundreds or even thousands of miles away, serving the country.
First Lieutenant Jake Osborne, assigned in Afghanistan, thought he would be one of them, as his communication with his wife Chelsea Osborne back home was limited and his vacation days were few and far between.
He longed to be there with her as she experienced pregnancy on her own.
The due date approached fast and Jake felt resigned to the fact that he would not be able to go back to see his little one’s birth.
Chelsea was understanding of the situation, and Jake took comfort in the fact that her family would be there with her.
She eventually went into labor with her family surrounding her, and Jake’s sister.
But back at base, Jake’s commander suddenly told him to pack up and take leave around the time of the expected due date.
His commander arranged his flight and Jake knew he would be home in two days.
It was when he was waiting for his flight then that he received a message from his sister saying Chelsea was in labor.
She kept him updated as he anxiously awaited going home, and it was as close as it could be to him being right there with his wife.
When Jake finally arrived, he walked through the door of Chelsea’s room in the hospital to see his healthy wife and healthy daughter.
The second he saw Chelsea holding their baby, he froze and found himself so moved by emotion he couldn’t speak.
Despite his very brief vacation, Jake was thrilled to be able to see and hold his baby girl and see his amazing wife again.
As a part of history, The Great Depression was known to be a period of hardship for Americans back then. Families in America were mostly poor and food that was made had to last for a long period of time to prevent spoilage. This cake became well known during that period and now people today have created a new recipe based on this, substituting some expensive ingredients for cheaper ones without compromising the taste!
Here is the recipe:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
6 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup cold water
Weight loss, as unbeknownst to many, does not equate to fat loss. That’s right – you may lose all of your muscle, but still retain your unwanted layers of fat, coupled with loose skin. Who would want that? Thus, for the hard-core dieters, a new plan has been introduced – the military diet.
Coupled with a proper exercise regime that consists of light aerobic exercises, if you have the willpower to push through, you may drop unwanted pounds with this diet plan. After all, its all about creating a deficit – calorie-wise.
Breakfast is extremely important – you will not be skipping meals for this diet plan. You’d be left too hungry to do so, due to the extremely low calories! This diet is not for the faint-hearted, and people with yo-yo dieting histories are highly advised NOT to follow this diet plan. Day 1’s breakfast is shown below.
For those with peanut allergies, you may replace the peanut butter with almond butter, cashew butter or even some hummus.
Coffee and tea must be plain – without milk, sugar or even syrup.
So you’ve decided to start this diet in order to create a calorie deficit. Beware – its going to be very hard, and hunger pangs are frequent in this one. A sample of meal one’s lunch includes 1 cup of tuna, 1 cup of coffee or tea plus 1 slice of toast.
Day 1 ends with 1 apple, 1 cup green beans, half a banana and 3 oz of lean minced meat. Choose chicken or turkey for this one – no high fat minced!
And day 2 rolls around – scrambled eggs on toast with half a banana. With a beverage of your choice – either coffee or tea, so say goodbye to your regular glass of OJ. No pancakes or waffles here, you can savor them when this diet ends for the week.
Tupperware-friendly meal for lunch: 5 crackers, 1 boiled egg and 1 cup of cottage cheese. Packed full of protein but low in carbs (according to which brand of crackers you choose).
Day 2 ends with dinner: 2 sausages, 1 cup of broccoli, half cup of carrots and half cup of banana along with vanilla ice cream.
This diet is extreme, caution is advised along with constant health monitoring. It is incredibly low in vegetables and fruits – which means a lack of vitamins and minerals for you!
Day 3 rolls around, and a starvation breakfast welcomes your morning as you push through the last day – 1 apple, 5 crackers and 1 slice of cheese. Still hungry after seeing this?
Lunch on day 3: 1 egg and 1 slice of toast with nothing on it. Not even Nutella.
The last meal of the 3-day dieting period are as follows: 1 cup of tuna, half a banana and 1 cup of vanilla ice cream. No snacking in between meals is allowed – consistency in a calorie deficit is key, although this might set you up for a 4-day binge. Control.
This diet plan forbids all alcohol – so say goodbye to your weekly booze as you start your military diet journey!
With proper dieting and exercise, a 6-pack is possible, but not without hard work!
Dieting requires lots of time and patience – its no miracle, though – consult your doctor should you wish to take on any dieting plan before you do so!
If there’s one piece of advice that’s been said to death, it’s to drink more water and stay hydrated. But how do you know that you’re getting enough water into your system? Here are nine signs that you need to drink more water.
1. Lotion doesn’t work
If applying liberal amounts of lotion to your dry skin doesn’t improve its condition, you may need to up your liquid intake to help the body produce more sebum!
2. A dry mouth and a sticky tongue
The next time you feel this symptom, don’t reach for candy or a piece of gum – go for a glass of water instead!
Headaches are a very common sign of dehydration, and too little water can lead to migraines. If you have one, drink only water and keep away from sugary drinks.
4. Weight gain
Drinking enough water can boost metabolism, while being dehydrated can lead to you feeling unnecessarily hungry as your body is confused about the lack of liquid.
You need enough water for easy passage of waste through your system. Unless you have another condition, being constipated is usually a sign of dehydration.
Drinking enough water can remove bacteria from the bladder, preventing these irritating infections from happening at all.
7. Bad moods
It takes only extremely mild dehydration to result in irritation or moodiness due to changes in the brain chemistry.
8. Muscle cramps
You can go for yoga or massages to counter this, but it may be just as simple as drinking enough water. Blood circulation slows down when you don’t have enough liquid in your system.

Hydration is important for health, so it’s important to keep this signs in mind. Remember, drink plain water whenever you feel thirsty, and stay hydrated!
If you’re like me, a tape measure is an important tool in your utility drawer or tool box. And one thing my father taught me that I’ll never forget is to always measure twice and cut once. Because once you cut, you can’t undo it. I’m sure you’ve heard the old proverb yourself! While you’re certainly familiar with the inches and centimeter markings on the tape measure, there is one object that might not be as familiar to you.
But we decided to take it upon ourselves to educate the masses about the mysteries of the tape measure. And one thing we stress is the black diamond you’ll find if you look closely.
While people can always just do the math in their head, the visual aid of the diamonds makes it much easier.
With that black diamond, you can hang frames, decorations, and other things from the wall easier. You will no longer need to worry if you’re doing it wrong. Check out why in the video below!
All markings do the same thing in different ways. These included the 16-inch on center mark, the 24-inch on center mark and the black diamonds.
The 16-inch mark indicates the most common separation for studs. The 24-inch can be used for stud separation for small buildings like garden sheds.
The black diamonds are equidistant between the 16 and 24-inch markings. They allow you to lay five rafters beneath each 8-foot piece of plywood.
Watch us show you how to use the markings, starting with 16-inch centers, which is the most commonly used stud arrangement.
Here are some viewers’ responses about our useful tutorial.
“FYI. 24 inch on center is what most roof trusses are set at. 16″ is what most wall studs and flooring joists are set at. 16″ centers let you install 1/2″ drywall. With 24″ centers you must install 5/8″ drywall. That is why walls in houses are normally 1/2″ drywall and Ceilings are almost always 5/8″ drywall. I have never heard of someone using the black diamonds before. I live in MI and never knew anyone to put trusses less than 2′ apart. I am an electrician and have been doing residential wiring for 40 yrs. I have never seen 5 by 2s in 8 feet. Something to know though. I will have to ask some carpenters about this. :)”
“Over time in an effort to save on construction materials we have used 16in, centers, 24 in, and 19.2 inch centers each one will save on lumber depending on what is used for substrate. There are a lot of factors that play into which one should be used”
“The diamonds, many call them “truss markings”. But in Canada, the are joist markings. The 3/4 inch floor sheeting is rated to a maximum of 24inch span. Or, 4 spaces (5 joists) for every sheet. But to shrink it up so it has more tolerance and not at it’s “maximum” They use a spacing that is smaller than 24in, but bigger that the old standard, 16inch (6 spaces/7 joists).”
Check out the video below and you’ll see the black diamonds between the 16 and the 24 inch marks. Watch the video and you’ll see why it is useful to have these markings.
Did you know this about tape measures? These devices have more going for them than you’d suspect.

When a police officer found a young homeless girl living in a “suspicious vehicle,” he asked her to leave the car. When she stumbled out onto the sidewalk in the cold, he asked her to look him in the eyes, and then he made a strange request. And after the girl came forward with what the police officer did, it has made headlines and gone viral across the internet.
This police officer did not just come across the car. A concerned citizen in Huntington Beach had reported the homeless girl and her “suspicious vehicle” the police. They didn’t want the 11-year-old girl and her parents spending any time in their neighborhood, so they figured the police would take matters into their own hands and kick them out.
The girl was terrified when the police officer demanded she leaves the car. She was afraid of police and knew that the situation she and her mother were in was not conventional. That’s why when the police officer told her to “hop” to it, she lost her cool.
Police officers and homeless people never get along. At least that is how it seems. People like the Huntington Beach resident, who called the police on the homeless girl and her mother, don’t like having homeless people in their neighborhoods because they are a “stain” on the image they wish to portray. Officer Zach Pricer knew that Huntington Beach residents consider homeless people an eyesore and “bad for property values,” and since he had vowed to protect and serve Huntington Beach, he had to side with taxpayers.
But when Pricer saw that the car had an 11-year-old girl in it, he didn’t want to be harsh. So he called the Homeless Task Force and since made headlines. Now the Huntington Beach Police Department is sharing an update on their Facebook page:
“This morning an officer checked on a suspicious occupied vehicle in the area of Graham and Edinger. During his investigation, he learned the people in the vehicle were a mother and her 11-year-old daughter, and they had been living out of their car. The officer contacted our Homeless Task Force to help arrange housing.”
Instead of kicking the girl and her mother to the curb, as the caller wanted, Officer Pricer helped them find housing.
While Pricer’s partner and the mother discussed options, Pricer went over to the little girl. He decided while his partner talked “business,” he could have some fun with the girl and help change her perception of the police department. So he took out a piece of chalk and drew a hopscotch pattern on the sidewalk. Then he “hopped to it” with the girl and they had a blast doing something out of the ordinary.
“As the officer worked on housing arrangements with the mother, another officer on scene, Officer Pricer, began displaying his expertise in hopscotch to the daughter,” the department added on Facebook.
Because the girl had never played hopscotch before, Officer Pricer took this as a sign that he could “educate” her on the game. And in the process, they had a lot of fun.
