Photo Of Woman With Dog Goes Viral When People Realize What She’s Doing

You never know when something is going to come into your life and change the course of it forever. Perhaps, you get an inheritance from a rich uncle that you didn’t know you had. Or perhaps you meet someone in the train station which you end up spending the rest of your life with. Or, as is the case with Janine Guido, you meet a dog named Watson who does not have long left on this earth.

Just days ago, Guido found Watson, starving and suffering. As the founder of Speranza Animal Rescue, Guido has seen a lot of suffering animals, but few seemed to be in as much pain as Watson.

“The first thing I noticed with him was his eyes,” she told The Dodo. “He looked exhausted like he was ready to give up the fight.”

Because Watson was emaciated and malnourished, his life was in peril. He had been staying at an emergency veterinarian clinic around the lock. He had been found by a college student in a park in Philadelphia last week where he was apparently left to die after a lifetime of neglect. Besides being underfed, he was covered with sores. He also had a large cancerous tumor on his hind leg, which had spread throughout the rest of his body.

When Watson finally made it to the shelter, he was in a defeated mood. He just seemed to want someone to sit with him and make him feel as if he was not alone in the world. They had no way of saving his life – the cancer had gone too deep. That’s why Guido volunteered to be with Watson in his final moments to give him a chance at peace before he died.

“I had a gut feeling that things weren’t going to be good the next day,” she said. “I didn’t want to leave him alone. Not when he needed me the most.”

Guido gathered blankets on Wednesday night and created a relaxing oasis in the laundry room so she and Watson could spend the night together. She laid down with the dying dog and gently talked to him throughout the night.

Watson fell into a comfortable, deep sleep, and Guido stayed by his side the entire night.

“He slept like a rock all night, cuddled up to me so tight. I cried myself to sleep, and woke up in tears as well.”

For the first time, in perhaps his whole life, Watson was able to sleep in someone’s arms, embraced in love and kindness.

The next day, he could not eat or drink. He was even more tired but could not sleep. He died not long after.

Although Guido and Watson had only been friends for a short time, she was glad she could offer him some peace and love after a lifetime of neglect and abuse.

“I’m just so thankful I was able to hold him tight for his last night,” Guido said. “I was telling him how much he was loved and that his life mattered. My heart is breaking, but I would not change a thing.”

What’s your reaction to her kind act?
